On Tuesday, December 1, 2020, we celebrate GivingTuesday. GivingTuesday is an international movement encouraging generosity with a focus on doing good in your community. This year, there are many local New Philadelphia non-profits and charities you can support.

Remember, giving doesn’t always need to be about donating money (although that definitely helps). You can support local charitable organizations in other ways like:

Becoming a volunteer
Sharing social media posts
Attending community events where they benefit from the proceeds
Taking part in fundraisers
Donating physical items

Either way, we hope this list inspires you to give back and get involved in your local community. We’ve provided a brief description of each organization, but we encourage you to visit their social media or website to learn more about them.

Advocacy, Choices & Empowerment (ACE), Inc.

ACE is a consumer driven agency and caring community whose mission is to reduce the isolation of consumers of mental health services.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Central Ohio

Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Central Ohio’s mission is to, “Create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth.” They do this through community and school-based mentoring programs.

Community Hospice

“Community Hospice is a community based, non-profit organization that has provided end-of-life care and support for patients and their families in their time of need for over 30 years.”

Friends of the Homeless of Tuscarawas County & Pathway to Wellness

“The mission of the Friends of the Homeless of Tuscarawas County is to assist families and individuals in a faith-based environment to achieve stability, sobriety and permanent housing.”

Harbor House

Tuscarawas Harbor House’s Facebook explains they are, “A nonprofit organization that houses victims of domestic violence as well as men and women recovering from substance abuse.”

Noah’s Hope Child Advocacy Center

Noah’s Hope’s website says, “It takes a community to meet the needs of children impacted by child abuse. Noah’s Hope focuses on providing trauma informed services to child victims and their families. We offer a neutral, child focused environment where children can feel safe and supported when disclosing their suspected abuse.”

Rainbow Connection / The Tuscarawas Society for Children & Adults, Inc.

The Tuscarawas Society for Children & Adults, Inc.is a non-profit, independent health charity dedicated to meeting the needs of the disadvantaged and disabled residents of Tuscarawas County.

Starlight Enterprises, Inc.

Starlight’s website says their mission is, “Helping persons with disabilities achieve their dreams and aspirations in partnership with each of their communities.” Their Facebook adds, “Starlight Enterprises Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) agency that provides services to assist persons with disabilities achieve personal goals, employment, & housing.”

Tuscarawas Arts Partnership (TAP)

TAP’s vision is to, “Promote a visible, sustainable, local arts culture through advocacy, education, and funding. This can be accomplished by encouraging the arts to thrive across Tuscarawas County, and encouraging partnerships between the arts with other art, business and community agencies to create positive impact and benefits throughout the county.”

Tuscarawas County Humane Society

The Tuscarawas County Humane Society website says they are a, “Nonprofit organization that focuses on rescuing the abused, abandoned, and neglected animals of Tuscarawas County. We rescue all domesticated animals; dogs, cats, pocket pets, and even livestock.”
